Eating Dirt

This missionary stuff is tough work.  Look at this poor child.

Ok, here’s the real story… Ethan has come out of his shell a bit and is interacting a lot with the Russian kids.  Today he was riding piggy back on a sweet boy who has taken an interest in him.  The boy ran down a hill and took a tumble.  As one of the Russian counselors tried to describe it to me, Ethan became “Super Man”.  He landed face down on the ground, receiving a mouth (and a nose) full of dirt, rocks and sand.  He was a pretty tough guy about it.  He did say, however, that it “hurt his brain.”

Ben’s birthday was today.  I brought a box of his favorite baseball cards for him to open his eyes to this morning.  Then we were greeted by a door full of post-it notes with sweet (and funny) messages, a big Pepsi and 3 “Prince Polo” bars (chocolate wafers – they are all the rage here).  Thanks to the kindness of April allowing me to use her kitchen… again…. I was able to make one of Ben’s favorite cakes, which we had during our team debriefing after campfire.  It wasn’t the usual celebration, but I hope he had a nice birthday away from home.

I have devotions in the morning.  I need to do some praying and preparing on that.  Thanks for all of your continued prayers and support!

The Russians Are Coming

My apologies for the lack of blog posting.  The last couple of days have been busy with preparations, along with desperate resting. Tomorrow we will welcome 27 Russian children, probably between the ages of 8 and 12.  It’s going to be an intense 10 days, followed by our journey back home (losing 6 hours).  So we’ve taken every possible opportunity to relax and rest.

2013-06-18 13.29.00Today was also Ethan’s 6th birthday!  Thanks to April’s help shopping,  I was able to make Ethan’s favorite cake for him for today and we gave him a Lego set.  He also received a Lego set from the Korytkowski’s and several chocolate-based gifts from our new friends!  He will get a small party with friends his own age when we return, but at least we were able to celebrate today!  Thank you to everyone who helped make that happen.

The other great excitement of the day was Mala’s arrival!  She seems to have had good travels and we are so happy to have her with us.  She’s going to be a great addition to this team.

I will try my best to keep up with posting during this camp!
