Camp Is In Full Swing

“I’m not hot. I’m not tired. And I’m here for the campers”
“I’m not hot. I’m not tired. And I’m here for the campers”
Except for that last part, this was hard to repeat today. Camp is hot, exhausting and … wonderful. I need to get some sleep, but I wanted to post a quick update.
Today I had the privilege of teaching the main Bible Lesson, which was about God’s promises through the story of Abraham and Sarah. I needed help this morning folding promises I printed into paper stars. I was struggling, as was Mala who was helping me. An eager young man named Timothy came and showed us how it’s done with his ninja paper-folding skills!
Tomorrow Ben gets to teach about blessings. Ben also gave this morning’s staff devotion. He shared the verse we’ve chosen for our “journeys back”, which is 1 Corinthians 2:1-5:
And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
He spoke about how this has given him courage to do this, both from the aspect of feeling inadequate to be used by God and to know what to say – but also the difficulty of langage, cultural, religion, and generational barriers.
As I’ve been listen to the testimonies given by our team at campfire, I’ve heard a lot of mentions about fathers.
You might pray for guidance for me for the English class. The kids are doing great and I’m going through ideas quickly. I have the older group and they know a good deal of English. I’m starting to worry that I will have trouble keeping it exciting, interesting and beneficial!
You can also pray for us as a family. We’ve been away from home for 24 days now. We’re tired and the schedule has gotten much more intense. We’re not getting much time together as a family, and our little space (though we are so grateful to have it) is unkept and I’m pretty sure it is shrinking. There are so very many good things, and we are glad we chose to stay for this duration, but we could use your prayers to keep us going!

Rachel, dearest Rachel…..I have NEVER known you to not be able to make any subject beneficial, interesting or exciting….you can do it! God has gifted you that way, as well as many other gifts. I love the devotional scriptures that Ben used this morning. I am praying for your team everyday. I know that by day 24 I would probably be in tears, missing my home, husband & children. Use my life verse :Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. And, I came across this verse for today on biblegateway: Psalm 91:1 “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the almighty”. I swear, God led me to read that just for you this afternoon. 🙂 Prayers for you my friend.
